Subscription lifecycle

This page tells how MEGOGO keeps the subscriptions that you activate: the renewal modes, the states of a subscription and the limits.

Who bills the subscriber

You bill the subscriber and you set the price. MEGOGO does not charge the subscriber for your subscription.

Your subscription is in the MEGOGO profile of the subscriber together with other services of the subscriber, for example subscriptions that the subscriber bought from MEGOGO directly. The subscriber cannot cancel or renew your subscription in MEGOGO. Only you can do it with the API.

Renewal modes

You and MEGOGO agree on the renewal mode of each service. MEGOGO configures it in the service ID.

Mode What you do A new subscribe for an active subscription
Automatic renewal Send subscribe when the subscriber buys, and unsubscribe when the subscriber stops Usually code 2023: the subscription is already active. No action is necessary
Renewal by the partner Send subscribe for each new period that the subscriber pays Adds one period after the current end date

With automatic renewal, MEGOGO renews the subscription before the end of each period until you send unsubscribe.

NOTE

Code 2023 comes from a MEGOGO setting of the service: a new subscribe cannot renew an active subscription. MEGOGO usually turns this setting on for services with automatic renewal. Ask your MEGOGO manager for the renewal mode and this setting of each service ID.

Usually the period is 30 days. Ask your MEGOGO manager for the period and the mode of each service ID.

Rules for suspend and resume

  • Send resume only after your own suspend. If the subscriber has no suspended subscription, resume works as subscribe: it adds a period to an active subscription, or it starts a new subscription.
  • Do not send subscribe while the subscription is suspended. It starts a new subscription, and the suspended time does not come back.
  • unsubscribe also stops a suspended subscription. The suspended time is lost.

For most integrations, subscribe and unsubscribe are sufficient. Use suspend and resume only if the subscriber must keep the time that is left, for example when you block the internet access for a debt.

Two service IDs of one subscription

Two of your service IDs can give the same MEGOGO subscription, for example "Light, 1 month" and "Light, 12 months". If the subscriber has both:

  • MEGOGO keeps one subscription for the subscriber;
  • user/subscriptions shows one item with the service ID of the last subscribe;
  • unsubscribe with the other service ID gives "successful": true, but the subscription does not stop.

CAUTION

Send unsubscribe with the service ID that user/subscriptions shows for the subscriber.

Limits

  • The end date of a subscription cannot be more than 15 years from now. A subscribe that goes past this limit gives code 2023.
  • unsubscribe and suspend give "successful": true also when the subscription is not active. Use user/subscriptions to check the state.

Reconciliation

Your billing is the source of truth for the subscriptions of your subscribers. Compare it with MEGOGO regularly:

  1. For each subscriber with a changed subscription, get user/subscriptions.
  2. If a subscription is active in MEGOGO but not in your billing, send unsubscribe.
  3. If a subscription is active in your billing but not in MEGOGO, send subscribe.
